its hard to believe i only have 5 more days of high school left. i dont think it will hit me that i will no longer be going to Liberty until i dont go back january 4th and im, rather, in provo, utah at BYU starting my day off in the cold snow. i will miss bako, the people of bakersfield-not really the weather or the lack of scenery, and i hope its an awesome start of 2010!

in other news...everyone else is happy that the end is in sight and we have a 2 week break from school and the daycare kids and everything else that keeps us busy and stressed! we cant wait for garrick and brittni, zach and stacie, and rachel to come home for Christmas!! we're doing a gift exchange which will be fun and exciting and just being together will be great! :) we can sing christmas carols and make snow angels and eat sugar plums! haha and of course watch awesomme Christmas movies like Elf, It's a Wonderful Life, A Christmas Story, Polar Express and many more! Christmas is the best time of the year-everyone's a little more happy, we get to show people how much we love them, and we get to remember the reason for the season[sorry soo cliche]!

i can't even explain how wonderful it is to be in a choir that can sing beautifully and everyone can carry their own part without people pulling the choir down. last weekend i went to stockton california with other choir members from our school and from choir people from schools all over the central region of california. we were given 7 songs beforehand and had to know them for the most part before we went up. thursday and friday and saturday morning consisted of endless of hours preparing the music for the performance saturday afternoon. we had mostly contemporary music and i loved all the songs! i couldn't put any links up but if you search 'california central region mixed choir 2009' some videos would pop up and they're just sound with black background and the name and composer of each song in white. songs include 'i carry your heart with me' which is my favorite taken from a poem from ee cummings, ' the lady in the water', 'alleluia', 'tantum ergo', 'sure on this shining night', 'daemon irreppit callidus', and 'rejoice'. CHECK IT OUT. if you want too that ees. well i need to go pack for utah! thanksgiving is gon be lotsa fun! catch you on da chilly side! byeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

soo its been a long time since ive blogged. the last blog was about spring break and oh so much has happened since then, its hard to try now to fill everyone in. theres really no excuse for not blogging since i am on facebook for like, hours on end[hi, i'm hannah and i'm a facebook addict] and could blog if i wanted to. not that i dont want to. anyways im rambling so let me fill you[whoever you are or whoever you arent] in.
the school year ended and i got straight A's in my classes which i was really proud of. i also passed both of my ap tests but not with flying colors. just the bare minimum but thats okay because i wasnt expecting anything at all...i went to 3 weeks of summer school-i took health with all the sophomores-and got an a in that class too[whoopee].
then it was off to garrick and brittnis wedding in salt lake! june 26th 2009 they got married in the salt lake temple. it was beautiful! me and rachel were bridesmaids and zach and brittnis brothers were groomsmen. they were very happy and we had a lovely reception. great food. greater company. a beautiful setting[in the backyard of brittnis family friend] with a pond and a river and green growing everywhere. my aunty naomi from new zealand kind of surprised us and came over for the wedding so that was a wonderful surprise! there wasnt much of a program. just a little bit of our maori culture. all the kiwis that were there got up and sang an action song called karangatia ra and then the men did the haka-ka mate. then brittnis grandpa, who reminded me of frank sinatra, sang a lovely song for the married couple. classic voice. it rained at the end of the reception which was okay. cleaned up fast and then everybody parted. we left for bako the day later because we needed to get ready for the bako reception[which was also lovely]! will attach some photos.... :) well theyre up there and im too lazy to move em. but if you look at the bottom picture then go up thats in order. theres a lot of me and rachel[haha], one of the couple, my aunty and dad and me and rach, walking to tuccanos with zach and stacie[tucanos is amazing, btw], and the reception place, and the just married car.

ohhh spring break! much needed and always fun. me beth and dad went to utah to visit rach, zach, and garrick...and other ppl of course! saw lots of other ppl. our cousins hawea and junior were in town for conference and vacation so we saw them. as well as a lot of other family like the browers and the maryotts[basically family]. we just got back. i drove the camry the whole way home cuz dad brought the saturn home to sell. longest drive ever and im exhausted so im gonna just post pics. theyre out of order but im too tired to fix it.

has been good. everything is settling down. zach is up at byu and back into the college life with both garrick and rachel. three byu students! wow.

this is zach. typical zach. what a try hard. he thinks hes gonna play rugby at byu, we'll see how that goes. hes already got his all blacks shirt so hes set!

good news-garrick is engaged! he proposed a couple weeks before zach came home and she[brittni] said yes, of course! they are to be married in the salt lake temple on june 26.

basketball season is over so dad is back to just teaching and not losing his voice. this pic is of him coaching at the game in fresno against garces[why we went all the way there to play against garces for the 4th time, idk] we lost this game, but after such a great record and season, it was okay. liberty wasnt even expected to get that far so it was good for the team and the school in general.

bethany had to have her tooth pulled yesterday because she had an absess. apparently, people have died from neglecting to go to the dentist or doctor to treat them and so the dentist cleared his schedule to see her yesterday and they decided they would just pull it out. she was not really prepared for that so it was a shock and bethany was crying a lot afterward. poor thing. shes fine now though so thats good.

we went to the beach a couple of weeks ago with my uncle, his wife and kid andmy moms cousin who was visiting from texas. that was nice. it was a beautiful day and we seem to be having more of those now-a-days. its getting closer and closer to summer[we usually get like 2 days of spring] so thats been nice.

moms still doing daycare and me and beth are still at school so nothings changed there. everyones doing well so all thats left to do on this blog is put some pics up!

zach is back, tell your friends. haha no furealz though. zach got home last night at 9.25ish. it was originally supposed to be 3.20 but, he missed his flight in phoenix which as an apparently confusing airport so we forgave him. he ran after the place[no he didnt, but he barely missed it]. his luggage actually came without him so me and stacie went and picked it up at 3.20 and gave dirty looks to everyone who left him because we felt someone should be responsible.

soo last night, the plane landed and people started coming off the plane and we were waiting forevaaa and we didnt see him and soon enough, there were only like a couple people left who came through the doors. then the security guard[who was the only one i saw working the airport istself] closed the door. which really confused us because he hadnt come out yet. so of course a bunch of thoughts came into our minds like, maybe he is hiding or maybe he wants a grand entrance and wanted to be the last one off and then there was also this, maybe something happened but we doubted that one. anyways, the suspension was killing us, obviously, and then we see the security guard come to the door one last time, and he opens the door and a fine, young, STUDLY missionary walks through the door. and then the tears fell and the screams came and really long hugs followed and it was basically wonderful:)

then he got released at the stake center and we[our fam, stacie, and my aunt alma and her boys] came back to our house and ate and talked and talked and talked for a long time.

then today...we hung out in the morning and i missed a few of my classes and then went to skool for a bit and fell asleep and yada yada yada we had some close friends over for dinner and a reunion basically:) and that was fun. the kids were all really happy to see zach, especially the ones that he used to babysit. and here's some pictures from that.....enjoy!

only 9 more days til our little zach comes back! holy cowabunga. i cant say it hasnt gone by fast cuz it really did. my mom might think otherwise but anywho! we cant wait to see him and we've defff made a list of things to do and movies to watch in the short time that he is here before he leaves to byu. since theres not that much else to report or show, heres some pictures of him and i will fosho put up more when he comes back!

whether democrat or republican, conservative or liberal, i think we can all say that our country has taken a step out of darkness into the light [not that bush led us into darkness or whatever, i think he did the best anyone could have done in the hard times we've had]. change will come, and hopefully it is for the better, although only time will tell. in any case, it was cool witnessing history and i'd just like to say that i fully support our president and i think he will do his best to restore the country to the best of his ability.

also, aretha franklin sang very soulfully and it was cool seeing her sing. also, our new president threw up the shaka sign[hang loose, bra] when his high school band from hawaii was playing which was pretty funny.

is good thus far. didnt go to school today because im sick *cough cough*. it had nothing to do with the fact that the break was not long enough...zachs official 'return' date is february 11th! a wednesday which happens to be an early out for my school. its gonna be a good day. he will be speaking on the 15th if any of you would like to come.

the vacation was wonderful. short but sweet. rachel came down as soon as she could. garrick came later on and everyone was home[zach on the phone] christmas eve. disneyland was great, of course. a little bit wet, but good. brittni was there with her fam so we met up with their family which was also good. she came back with me and garrick that night and stayed until this last friday[they got stuck in the snow in fillmore]. rachel stayed til sunday morning and both she and garrick are back at byu probably at class right now.

random note: we have this random pumpkin at my house. i know halloween was like, 2 months ago but its not even rotten. i think my grandma gave it to us, probably thinking my mom could bake something out of it which she can but hasnt yet. anyways, i just thought that was weird. moving on...

Well, it's another christmas come and almost gone. Zach called last night while we had our early christmas because right now we are driving on the 5 to get to disneyland. Pretty exciting stuff! Almost the whole family, with the exception of zach, is going and we will probably all revert back to our childhood selves.

We switched from at&t to t mobile and now we all have blackberries. Even dad! So that's good news I guess. Its a pretty good phone. I'm posting this blog from it(like I said, we're driving right now). What else...bethany got a pram and a baby doll from santa and he ate the pumpkin pie we left him. I got a fender starcaster so I am officially a rock star! Rachel got a bunch of movies and a backpack for all of her heavy college books. Mom got movies also and a temporary phone(she's against the whole technology thing and doesn't want one but she'll use it for now until zach comes back). Garrick got some movies(dark knight) and a cool pen that records and helps you study better. Dad got a phone(like I said) and he loves it. Stacie came over last night which was fun and she got some lotion and a candle and a stocking:) coco got a treat. Hahaha

Well we are almost to disneyland sooo I'm gonna jet. That's all she wrote.

i looove christmas time! the decorations, the cold weather, the end of the semester, the lights, the trees, the music. after thanksgiving, the christmas music starts playing on the radio and we start singing it in choir. people thinks its too early for christmas but i love it. not all of the music is good[eg: merry christmas darling] but most of it is[eg: everything else]

on thursday, we had our christmas concert[liberty's] and it went pretty well! i didnt forget any words and we all sang pretty well considering how much we mess around during choir class.

chamber chorale sang deck the halls, jingle bells, we wish you a merry christmas, and santa claus is comin to town. and chorale sang oh come all ye faithful, christmastime is here, and the angels sang, angels in seven, and peace, peace.

the fam and i went to l.a this weekend. it was quite a trip. we went mostly to say goodbye and farewell to some family friends we've known for a while. they're moving back to new zealand[where we first met them] at the beginning of december so this was pretty much the only time we could see them between now and then. we left on friday and got to the temple in time to check in to the motels and for our parents to get ready and go to the stake temple session. while they were there, me and beth watched the movie nims island which was pretty good even tho i thought it wasnt going to be. anyways, we spent the night at the hotel and then left in the morning to go to the wihongis[our friends]. we spent a lot of time with them and we went to the beach which is where most of the pictures were taken. we saw some protesters and a lot of surfers and what not. the usual beach stuff. then we went back to their place and had dinner. then kendall and maddie[two of their girls] took me and beth to see madagascar 2 at the movies[which was also pretty good!] and it was a lot of fun. then we went to another family friends house to stay the night. in the morning we went to the wihongis church and then we went to their house for dinner, said our goodbyes[sadness] and then we came home. it was good seeing them and the beach and the temple and everything! good weekend!

and i hate mondays, but the weekend was good though!

it was homecoming on friday and juniors got first place on the t-shirt design and we got 2nd on the float:] we were spiderman and it was pretty hardcore. we built a balcony and everything for the bulldog[we played golden valley-thats their mascot] to stand on after he kidnapped 'ms. liberty'. and spiderman swung across a building and kicked the bulldog off [onto a big matress thing] and saved ms liberty. it was tight:] me and my friends were nyc gangsters which was interestingly fun. the same night, bethany had two parties to go to[shes the most popular one in our family...] one was a halloween party and she was belle[shes also the prettiest one in the family]. me and mom did her hair and she wore heels the whole night. what a grown up! here's some pictures:

as you might know, my father is a teacher. he is in the cta, california teachers association, which is the largest teachers union. every year, they send out a little packet to "inform" [or influence] teachers who are a part of the cta concerning the upcoming elections or voting events for propostions. personally, i think this is...well, wack in the first place because teachers should be able to vote how they want and they should be educated on the topics enough to know what to vote for but, that could just be me...as we all know, on november 4th, voting will start and will include presidential elections as well as the infamous propostion 8 which, if passed, will restore traditional marriage and ban same-sex marriage. apparently, the cta will be voting no on prop 8 to "support equality for all" because "the cta believes that all people should be allowed equal protection under law". equality is great and really important, but this prop, in my opinion, will only do bad for the education system. the cta, however, strongly opposes the propostion...so much that they have donated $1,000,000 to the No on Propostion 8 Campaign. hmm...weird. did we not just have budget cuts? were there not an estimated 20, 000 teachers who were either fired or laid off this past May? yet, the california teachers association has an extra 1 mil to throw away fighting propostion 8, making them the largest institutional donor, because "the No campaign seems to be struggling." as if the $250,000 they already donated to a coalition opposing prop 8 in august wasnt enough. i'm awful glad our priorities are straight...

zach, or elder smith i should say, called this morning, not to wish mom a belated birthday because thats not allowed, but to tell her he broke his hand...yeahh smooth guy. apparently he was playing football with some other missionaries or the youth or something and he fell. he broke the bone boxers brake all the time. its by your pinky. this isnt the first time however...which explains a little bit[his bone was weak already]. here's a first hand[no pun intended] account of the first time he broke his hand:
back in the day when i was a turd....zach and i didnt get along. actually, i didnt get along with anyone, but anyways. i was in 5th grade and zach was a sophomore...maybe he was a junior. all i know is that we lived in the other house by columbia elementary. anyways, he was playing basketball out front and i was bugging him about something and i musta said something really annoying and probably critical that made him burst. i could tell so i jumped on my bike to make a get away. he threw his basketball at my bicycle and then when i came back around, he ran after me and either tried to punch me and missed or tried to punch my bike tire and missed. either way, he missed and hit the metal part of my bike and broke that same bone above his pinky. he didnt know it at first but it swelled and stuff. it was a mess. our parents weren't home and when they got home, we had to explain and a while later, zach finally went in to see if it was broken and sure enough, it was. the story must have sounded fake to the doc cuz he took zach aside and asked him a series of questions. he didnt outright ask if he was abused, but basically, he was asking zach if he was abused. when they were convinced, they fixed it and gave him a cast. this of course was during basketball season annnnd he couldnt play. he did get a pretty good at shooting with his left hand though! i'm awful glad something good came out of that awful situation! haha sooo there you go. a fun fact/story of the day!

besides the fact that i had hardly any homework over the weekend, which is rare, my brother garrick and his girlfriend brittni came down to visit, which is also rare. they got here on saturday morning or friday night, i dont know cuz i was sleeping, and they just left this morning. soo heres an overview of our weekend/beginning of the week: on saturday, we had breakfast and then went to delano to visit my grandma and uncle and cousins. we watched the usc game and played tennis which was interesting on account of there was no net and on top of that, not very much skill. i hit about 4 balls over the wall which would have been good if we were playing softball, but apparently ur supposed to hit it soft and aim or something like that. after that we went to costco and ate some food and shopped for food. that place is amazing btw. that night, we went to the driving range[we being everyone except mom...she doesnt like sports very much.] we got there and the guy had closed up early so he gave us free tokens for the inconvenience and we hit away. we randomly saw a kit fox running around on the range and i sliced almost every ball. after that we crashed and sunday morning, idk if im supposed to tell or not, but we didnt fast. mostly because brittni and garrick had already fasted or something so we'll do that later. went to church of course. good stuff. then we went home and made din-din[garrick bbq'ed tri-tip and we had potatos and bread and green beans]. we read some scriptures and then went to bed. on monday, dad had work and i had to go to school. bethany should have gone to school also, but she took the day off. haha:] monday night, i had a buttload of hw so i stayed home while everyone went to pick out some pumpkins and get some pies at marie callendars. when they got home we carved the pumpkins! as you can see below, we have different 'artistic' styles. so that was fun/messy as usual. if u cant tell the middle one is mine and it's supposed to be spongebob...haha. bethany's is the one one the right and the left one is garrick and brittni's. anyways, the next day which was tuesday, was a very busy one indeed! it was moms birthday! 39 years young again! not. she's now 43. again, i dont know if i'm supposed to tell that, but i did:] anyways, i got my choir to sing happy birthday to her which was good because mom did the type-setting for the choir concert program for free. it was the least they could do;) haha. at 11, i left school because i had an appointment at the dmv........ to get my license.......and well........i passed! thats totally my good news minute for young womens so act surprised when i tell you on sunday! after that, me and garrick and brittni decided it was a good time to go shopping for mom [late much? yeaahh...thats my life] i drove myself to target[which was one of the funnest things ive ever done-driving by myself, that is] and got her a card and bought rachel a rice cooker. kinda ironic since it was moms birthday but rachel needed one. happy birthday rachel! haha. umm i ended up also finger-painting a picture for mom on account of i dont have money and it would be dumb to spend her money on something she prolly wont like. anywho, it was pretty successful as you can see from the pictures[p.s isnt she beautiful?]. brittni and garrick made dinner[salmon, rice, veggies, & bread] and they also made the cake! we called rachel and sang to her which is why mom is holding my phone in the picture below because that was rachel:] we got her a bike helmet because she had been wearing mine from 5th grade when she went bike riding with dad. we also got her a black purse which dad thinks is to store candy and drinks in when we go to the movies...what a funny guy! and we got her a waffle maker that can make heart shaped waffles! which is a necessity of course, i recommend it to anyone who enjoys love filled waffles! after present time, we all had to get ready for my choir concert. i'm in two choirs[one is a zero period and the other is during school] and we did pretty good i think. when the pressure is on, everyone does better. sooo yeah. basically, that was our weekend/visit with garrick and brittni!

we went up to utah this past weekend for a couple of reasons. my uncle [dads brother] ngatai and his wife tweetie came from new zealand to slc for conference so we came to see them. also, garrick and rachel are up in provo so we went to see them. we left thursday afternoon when the last daycare kid left and drove to vegas and then we stopped at whiskey petes[cheap, trashy hotel/casino outside of vegas] to sleep for a bit. then we did the rest of the drive in the morning. we took rachel and garrick out for breakfast[at the creamery--hamburgers for b-fast? lol] then rachel had class and i went with her which was interesting. dad and garrick golfed. the gurls went to cafe rio and sallys beauty supply. then me and rach hung out with stacie for the night which was interesting also:] we went to the afternoon session of conference on saturday and we sat as far away as possible, but it was good cuz all 7 of us were togther[me, rachel, stacie, mom, dad, garrick, brittni]. we were gonna go shopping with my aunt but got separated on the tram. bought some new shoes that didnt match. saw gina petersen kinda randomly and then we went to a new zealand gathering where there was grrreat food[of course] and entertainment and lots of old friends. we watched morning conference at our good friends house then started back for bako and got home at 11 ish. tiring weekend but it was worth it! it totally rained the whole time, btw. my camera died and stoopid me didnt bring the charger, but heres some pics from the bookstore, cafe rio, our view in the conference center, the smith kids[minus zach], me and mom with our shoes and the temple:

soo the office season 5 premeire is tonight. its been in my calendar for like, hmm, a month or more so yah, its kinda a big deal. it's gonna be a whole hour filled with hilarious and absurd moments. anyways, in other news...tomorrow i'm going on a retreat for choir this weekend which will be fun. apparently all we do is sing...wooooo. i'll be back saturday night or early sunday morning. as for the fam, they're good. mom has daycare, dad has teaching, beth has school. we are gonna make a trip up to utah next weekend for conference and to see my uncle from new zealand who will be up there for a week or so and also to see rachel and garrick of course. so that should be fun. thats pretty much it. til next time. byeeee

this is bethany['s stomach]. she apparently has a really strong stomach and can roll it just like zach can! i videotaped it and then showed her and the only thing she could say between her laughter was, " i look so proud of it!" which she does. haha. well, this week is going okay. me and emma luthi and two boys from our choir sang the national anthem at the volleyball game tonight[liberty vs. foothill] so that was nerve-racking. then i went to a byu fireside at the stake center which was kinda informational. tomorrow is an early out and at mutual, we're learning how to blog! yay! so thats the week so far. el fin.

everyone loves weekends. weekends mean no school, no work, and lots of sleep. they mean football games, friends, family and fun. theyre basically a healthy dose of everything good. heres some pictures from this weekend:

this day was splendid. i hardly had homework and therefore got to chill with my friends. we made cupcakes, went to taco bell and then to the volleyball game[liberty won the 1st three matches no problem:) ]. also, i got my camera in the mail! so that was exciting. also, i remembered that mutual tomorrow is tie-dying! which is, as we all know, one of the most fun things to do ever! as for other news, one of moms daycare kids brought a playset for our backyard...yay. dad was happy because he got new road tires for his bike. and the newest news from zach is that he didnt have time for a haircut so he shaved/buzz cut his hair himself...that was actually a week ago, but i forgot to post it. what a funny guy aye? well, thats all folks. byeee.

i know this is a sad day for many and is seen as a day of mourning, but it is also bethany's 9th birthday! sooo, we celebrated today. we went out to red lobster for dinner because bethany absolutely loves crab and shrimp. she ate a couple king crab legs all by herself! haha. she had a great day. i gave her the mamma mia soundtrack which she has been listening to the whole afternoon. she also got a case for her scriptures from mom and a bag of peanut m&ms from dad;) shes gotten calls from both rachel and garrick and from stacie...so that was good. thanks you guys:] so overall this day has been a success! the end.

its not as easy as myspace of facebook or even bebo, but im getting used to this whole blog thing...kinda. well anyways, my day was pretty boring. i did a whole bunch of reading, writing, and junk like that. its pretty cool having my dad teach at my school because i can keep my lunch in his refrigerator and i can keep my books in his cupboards...also, he writes passes for me occasionally. haha. tonight is mutual. yay! we're making creme puffs and it should be fun!

i don't really know what to write on these things...umm, zach is doing pretty good[so i hear] and he has about 5 months. he hasnt had many baptisms, but hes never been really discouraged so that's good. he is in penn yam right now and he was in an omish community at one time, followed later by a native american reservation. thats him right there! what a STUD!

pretty cool stuff...garrick is in provo and is workin on his mission papers. rachels doing good in college. and its bethanys 9th birthday tomorrow! mom and dad are the same. everythings going good and that's all i have to say!

this picture was taken in new zealand at a famous little shop called pokenos. dad's from new zealand and his heart will always be in aotearoa. he is a teacher and moved to liberty this past year. he had a hip surgery done this past summer and says he feels like a teen again. haha

this is mom[and dad] on mothers day.
mom aka lucinda is a daycare provider/stay at home mom. and a good one at that! she's a great cook when she does...jkjk. mom grew up in eureka and delano and then met and married dad. we know all live here in bakersfield. yay!

this is an old picture but whatever, this is me and my sister rachel. she just left for college:[ sad day, but i guess everyone has to grow up sometime...shes doing good, if you wanted to know. her roomate isnt lds, but she's nice and pretty cool. she is living in heritage and is as close to campus as anyone could be . she calls sometimes and sends me texts regularly with random quotes from movies and the office. the house is emptier, of course and her room is being used by my mom to play the cello. we miss you gurrl!
